Who we are
UniversityRankings.us ("University Rankings," "we," "us") is an independent editorial and community platform covering youth basketball in the greater Houston, Texas area. We publish editorial player rankings and evaluations, and we host profiles, club and team pages, and community features. Contact: info@universityrankings.us.
Summary
- Accounts are held by adults, specifically parents or legal guardians, club directors, and staff. Children do not create or hold accounts.
- Player profiles are created in one of two ways: by our editorial staff, based on public basketball information, or by a parent or legal guardian who registers a player and attests to their guardianship.
- We collect only the information the platform requires to operate. We do not sell personal information, and we do not run third-party advertising.
- Parents and guardians may edit their player's profile and may request removal at any time.
Information we collect
Account information (adults). Email address and a password (stored as a hash by our authentication provider). For club directors: club and team details you provide.
Player profile information. Player name, graduation class, school, position(s), height, and city or region context. If a parent or legal guardian claims or registers a profile, they may add: a photo, highlight film links, GPA, social media handles, and similar recruiting-relevant details. All parent-added information is provided voluntarily by the parent or guardian, who controls it.
Editorial content. Our staff independently produces rankings and written evaluations based on public basketball activity (games, tournaments, camps). Editorial content is ours and is not personal information supplied by users.
Roster information. Club directors may add players to team rosters (jersey number, position, team). Claimed players' parents may remove their player from any roster at any time.
Community poll ballots. If community polls are active, ballots are tied to accounts, are never public, and are used only to compute published results.
Technical information. Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) collected by our hosting provider for security and operations. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
What we do not collect
We do not request or store player birthdates, home addresses, player phone numbers, player email addresses, or precise location data. Player accounts do not exist; all accounts belong to adults.
Children's privacy
University Rankings is designed so that children do not create accounts or submit personal information to us. Profiles for players are created and controlled by a parent or legal guardian, who affirms their guardianship at registration and consents to the profile. Editorial coverage of youth athletes (name, school, class, evaluation) is journalistic content comparable to newspaper and scouting coverage.
If we learn that a child has created an account or submitted personal information directly, we will delete it. If you believe a child has done so, contact info@universityrankings.us.
How information is used
- To operate profiles, rankings, club and team pages, rosters, and polls.
- To review registrations and claims (our staff reviews every submitted profile before it becomes public).
- To send transactional email: claim consent requests, approval notifications, and similar service messages. We do not send marketing email.
- To maintain security and prevent abuse.
Public and non-public information
- Public: editorial rankings and evaluations; approved player profiles; club and team pages and rosters; published poll results.
- Unclaimed players appear in limited form (name, class, rank context) without photos or parent-supplied details.
- Never public: account and parent email addresses, passwords, individual poll ballots, pending or rejected registrations, and admin review notes. Player profiles do not display any family contact information.
Sharing
University Rankings does not sell personal information. Information is shared only with service providers that operate the platform on our behalf (hosting, database, email delivery), under their standard terms, and where disclosure is required by law.
Parent and guardian rights
A parent or legal guardian may, at any time:
- Edit their player's claimed profile, including removing any parent-added content;
- Remove their player from any team roster;
- Request removal of their player's entire profile by contacting info@universityrankings.us. We honor verified removal requests promptly, normally within 2 business days.
Requests are verified against the claiming or registering account, or by reasonable alternative verification for unclaimed players.
Data retention
Account and profile data is retained while the account or profile is active. Removed profiles are deleted from public display immediately and purged from active systems within 30 days, except records we retain to document consent and removal requests.
Security
Access controls restrict data access by role (public, account owner, staff). Credentials are stored by our authentication provider; passwords are never visible to University Rankings. No system is perfectly secure, and University Rankings will notify affected users of any breach as required by law.
Changes
University Rankings may update this policy from time to time. Updated versions will be published on this page with a new effective date, and material changes affecting player information will be highlighted on the site.
